Each photograph is printed on acid-free, archival paper then mounted on a hand-painted board. The photograph is then layered with multiple coats of clear encaustic, a substance made of purified beeswax and damar resin. The encaustic preserves the photograph and imparts a rich, satiny glow to the art piece.
Once the encaustic has hardened a hot palette knife is used to smooth away any surface bubbles, bumps or streaks. This pristine surface is cooled and hardened for 24 hours.
Tinted oil-based glazes that create a dreamy quality and add texture and depth are brushed on to finish each encaustic.
CARE: Do not store encaustics in temperatures above 150 degrees, and avoid hanging them in direct sunlight.
Each board is ready to hang or to place upon a table or shelf.
